Apple's Hidden Album is a view filter. It moves photos out of your main camera roll so they do not appear when someone scrolls through your Photos app. The photos themselves are still in the Photos library. They still sync to iCloud if that is enabled. They are still readable by anyone who opens the Hidden Album section or knows your passcode, and may be accessible to photo recovery software that reads the Photos library directly.
ArkWarden stores files outside the Photos library, inside an encrypted container on your device. The encryption is mathematical. Without the correct key, the files remain unreadable even if they are located.
Hiding protects against casual browsing. Encryption protects against someone who is looking.

If your concern is that a family member scrolls your camera roll and finds something you would prefer they did not see, the Hidden Album may be enough. It is a simple, free way to move photos out of the main view.
The Hidden Album uses Face ID or Touch ID as its gate, but the device passcode is a fallback. Anyone who knows your iPhone passcode can open the Photos app, navigate to Albums, find the Hidden section, and see everything. There is no separate password or pattern. ArkWarden requires a pattern that is different from and independent of the device passcode. Knowing the phone passcode does not help.
The Hidden Album does not move files out of the Photos library. It changes which albums display them in the app. Photo recovery software that reads the Photos library directly may be able to locate and extract hidden photos. ArkWarden stores files outside the Photos library in an encrypted container. Even if software locates the files, the content is encrypted and unreadable without the correct key.
The Hidden Album works only with items in the Photos library: photos and videos. It cannot hold PDFs, spreadsheets, screenshots from other apps, or any non-media file. ArkWarden accepts any file type and encrypts all of them the same way.
The Hidden Album has no folder structure. Everything goes into one flat list. ArkWarden supports folders, so you can separate files by category and move them around by dragging.
If you are asked to unlock your phone and the person knows your passcode, they can open the Hidden Album. ArkWarden's Wing feature lets you draw a different pattern that opens a separate vault. Your real vault and its files stay closed. The person asking sees a fully functional vault with its own files.
You do not have to choose one or the other. The Hidden Album and ArkWarden solve different problems, and some people use both.
The Hidden Album is good for photos you want out of the main camera roll view but that are not particularly sensitive. Family photos you share selectively, screenshots of things you want to keep private from a casual browse.
ArkWarden is for files where the privacy requirement is real. Legal documents, financial records, medical information, personal photos that you would not want exposed under any circumstances. Files where being hidden from the camera roll is not enough.
